Thursday 11 May 2017 ‘Is it time to take the politics out of art?’ – Speaker: Dr Wendy Earle.  7 PM The Brunswick Inn, Derby.

Thursday 22 June 2017 ‘Creative Destruction: how to start an economic renaissance’ – Speaker: Phil Mullan. 7 PM The Brunswick Inn, Derby.

Special Event 1 (Economics): In the summer there will be a joint East Mildands Salon/Manchester Salon event in Buxton on ‘How can we deliver an economic renaissance in the Midlands and the North?’

Special Event 2 (Education): ‘Should every primary school pupil learn Latin?’ With a speaker from Classics for All. This will take place in a Derbyshire School.

The Autumn of Philosophy

In the tradition of the Derby Philosophers of the eighteenth century, the Salon will host two Battle of Ideas satellite events and a ‘Balloon Debate’ in the autumn on philosophical themes.

Wednesday 6 December 2017 A Balloon Debate: ‘What is the greatest work of philosophy?’ Speakers: A balloon full of philosophers. 7 PM The Brunswick Inn, Derby.
